This is such a disturbing article. They are looking at the short-term effects. I love meat, but wow... I'm not a fan of the Atkins diet. That much meat can't be good for anyone!
A few years ago, my husband joined Slim 4 Life. Although they didn't put him on the true Atkins diet, they followed similar guidelines - a lot of meat, some veggies, and not very many (if any) carbs. The first week, he was only supposed to eat meat and drink water. Nothing else. He did lose weight, but he never felt good. He loves meat more than anyone I know, and he would never do that again.

My husband doesn't think a meal is a meal without meat..he has cheeseburgers with mayo every day~sometimes twice in one day.
We don't need as much protein as we normally eat. The program that I am following, Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, suggests that if you want animal products, to have them as a condiment-approx 2 oz. Meals should be vegetable based for optimum health as per the program.

I keep hearing that we don't need as much protein as we think we need. I've also heard recently that you shouldn't eat meat for dinner because of how hard it is to digest (they say it disrupts sleep).
